In this post I am going to show you 4 surprising ways you can get more traffic to your website and impress your visitors at the same time.

Use The Feedback From Google
One of the most effective things you can do for your website is listen to what Google is telling you.
I am sure you are aware of, and have connected your website to Google Search Console already, but just in case, here is a detailed guide on how to index a new website.
Why is this so important?
Because Google gives you all sorts of insanely useful feedback on Search Console including:
- Issues with your website
- Whether you have broken links
- How well you are doing in search
It is this last point that we are most we to focus our attention on.
Google actually tells you what kinds of keywords you are ranking for and which of your pages is ranking. Can you imagine they are giving this information for free? This information is pure gold.
You can take a deep dive into the data and find out what is working, what is not, and where you should be focusing your website SEO efforts.
Again, if you are not connected to search console or not checking this information, it is time you started (right now in fact!). Once that is done, wait a month (it takes a little while to get some useful data) and login and check out the Search Analytics.
You will be surprised what Google is willing to tell you. And again, it’s free!
Focus Even More On Keywords
You are probably well aware of how useful keywords are. These babies can take you on an express elevator to the top of Google…. if you use them right.
Doing some keyword research and then strategically placing those well-researched keywords in your blog’s posts is something we all do, right?
But, what about the rest of your pages on your website? Are you optimizing those for keywords as well?
If not, it is time to change those bad habits right now!
Here are a few examples of how you can use keywords on pages you may not normally consider optimizing on your website:
1. Use your main website keywords on your homepage
I use the main keywords I want to rank for on my homepage (SEO and WordPress). These are my main services and topics I cover on my website.

2. Use your main products or services keywords on those relevant pages
Here is an example from a friend of mine who offers strategic sourcing services. They have a very specific page on their services and have optimized it for these keywords too:

The benefits for this are obvious. You will be able to rank for the exact services or products your customers are searching for!

Add Amazing Free Images
Everyone loves images, including your visitors and Google. In fact, Google even have a specific search for images – which just goes to show you how much they love them!
And you may have also noticed, that they include them in all sorts of ways in a standard search too. Yes, that is how much Google adores images.
Here is an example where I typed in “Brad Pitt”, just to show you what I mean:
So, if you want to keep your visitors reading longer and get more search visitors as well, why not start including more related images in your content.
It has been clearly demonstrated by Jeff Bullas that:

That is 94% more visitors to your website! I guess you don’t need much more convincing, right?
Now that you have made the decision to add more images, you are probably wondering where you can find some jaw-dropping images, without having to pay per download?
Well, here is a great resource on places to find free images (from Matteo Duo) to get you on the road to amazing images. I personally use Unsplash and Pixabay quite a lot. They have free images and with no attribution (what is called Creative Commons License CC0).
However, don’t forget to attribute the relevant people if they require it, and resize and optimize so you don’t slow down your website.
Make Sure You Are On The Right Side Of The Law
And the interesting thing is that these affect your SEO too.
Why?
Because Google is well aware of these rules and looks for certain things on all websites.
The most important ones, especially for bloggers are the following:
- Privacy Policy
- Affiliate Disclaimer
- Copyright Policy
And if you have anything to do with Europe, and when you are working online that is all of us, you should consider whether you need a cookie disclaimer too.
Once you have all of these in place, you should be good to go both in terms of legal requirements and also satisfying Google.
So, it’s good for your customers, your business and your SEO! That’s a win-win-win. (I know, it’s normally only win-win, but hey!)
