    • It’s official, mobile is the way of the future. So, as a business owner, you really have two choices, jump on board, or sit on the sidewalk and wave as your competitors pass you by. The mobile app industry is expected to grow into a $77 billion dollar industry by the end of 2017. To a business owner, that should mean two things: people are buying apps and you need an app.

    Naturally, the first question that comes to mind when the subject of new technology is broached is, “How much is this going to cost me?” That’s a completely legitimate question for anyone who has books to manage and a business to run. It’s scary to think about investing in new technology—especially since it’s changing so fast.

    What you need to keep in mind with regard to the cost of mobile app creation is not so much the initial development of your app. There is the possibility of a lofty right out of the door if you don’t do your homework. But, channel that business sense for a second. What keeps business in business? Residual income. Technology changes so fast, so you need to think not only about the upfront fees but also the maintenance fees as well. So, when you are out shopping for developers or companies to build your app, you need a two-part question, “How much does it cost to build and an app? How much will it cost to maintain and manage it?”

    As indicated in this infographic, determining the cost of mobile app development and maintenance depends on many different variables. First of all, you need to figure out who is building your app and who will maintain it after it’s built. From there, you need to research the developers’ methods of development—different methods mean different prices. After that, it’s wise to look into alternative solutions to see what is out there that compares to the bids you’ve gotten. Lastly, you need to decide what type of app and what type of app development will best meet the needs of your business. Then and only then, can you answer the question, “How much does it cost to build and maintain an app?” So, in the meantime, your best bet is to ask yourself the following questions instead.
