If You Want To Be A Guest Blogger, Stand Out From The Crowd

Today. One Day. We received 9 requests for guest posting. NINE! IN ONE DAY!! I don’t usually count them but there are always a lot.

We apologize in advance if we don’t respond to most of these. After a while, one looks much the same as another.

PLEASE! Stop with the insincere compliments. You think they will flatter us into a positive response but we know you send the same thing to dozens of blogs.

BE REAL! Stop sending us emails that you bought a template for or to a format that you found online. WE’VE SEEN THEM ALL BEFORE! WE’VE BEEN DOING THIS FOR 6 YEARS!

Here’s an analogy for you:

When you see a movie trailer and it does nothing for you, do you have any interest in watching the movie? After all, they’ve selected the best parts of the film and it still doesn’t look good! Does anyone think that lazy, formulaic outreach emails make blog editors excited to see your blog articles? If your grammar sucks in your outreach email, is there any chance of us inviting you to send in an article?

Our sincere apologies to the many people whose emails we simply miss, but who may well be truly excellent bloggers.

The rest of this article is for you.

How To Stand Out From the Crowd

Please be yourself. Please be sincere. If you want to compliment us, don’t make it a generic compliment. But compliments aren’t necessary. We’d far rather you just tell us something about yourself and your previous blogging successes. You should have had some blogging successes. Our audience is experienced, so this isn’t the place to cut your blogging teeth!

Your outreach email should have a unique headline.

Think! When you write an article, don’t you try to attract readers with a really good, unique headline? Why should your blogger outreach be read if it’s no different to thousands of others in any given year?

Send us some links to previous articles that are relevant to our SMB B2B audience.

Send us some article suggestions. Don’t ask us to suggest titles. We don’t know you. We don’t know your expertise. But we do know you can’t write a great article on any subject.

Our Guest Blogger Guidelines

Our guidelines have grown over the years, largely in response to poor outreach emails and poorly written articles.
