Close to a third of people have had birthdays since the scale of the virus became known, and life changed for all.
I’m lucky. In Arizona, restaurants are open – for now. And although I will not eat indoors, the weather is good enough to eat in the places that have outdoor dining. So I can celebrate somewhat traditionally.
So! Yet another year older! Boy, do they come quickly these days! Am I a year wiser? Absolutely! Do I feel older? No! I just don’t understand how people get stuck on the number of years they’ve been around and start thinking of themselves as old. People years younger than me call themselves old! “How can you be old when I’m older than you and I’m young!?”
It’s all about attitude and positivity.
I’ll still be young when I hit my Beatles birthday in a year. When I’m 64, I will have 2 grandchildren on my knee, almost like the song – virus permitting! Most of my once long curly locks flew the coop by the time my kids did the same.
Life Made Me a Mentor
Becoming a dad in 1987 changed me. Being a dad to kids who were striking out on their own changed me more. Suddenly, I felt like I wanted to mentor everyone who was starting out in their careers. I had things I could teach them that nobody ever taught me.
How should they deal with political nonsense in the workplace? And the sage advice for those about to start their second job? There’s more than one way to do what they learned in their first job. It can be confusing to think you know how to do something, only to find out that the new place does them differently.
Questions and Eternal Youth
A few years ago, when my IT career fell victim to apparent ageism, I migrated my skillset to Digital Marketing. Spec writing became blogging. The most important aspect of both careers is the quality and originality of the questions you ask.
An inquisitive mind is the key to youth. It keeps everything exciting. Always! That, love, and a love of the beauty this gorgeous planet has to offer.
I hope you and yours are safe and well.
